With Yamaha moving on to a completely different design language, which was most recently seen on the R15 V3 and R6, the R125 is also expected to receive similar treatment soon. Powering the R125 is a single cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valves engine producing 15.0PS @ 9,000 rpm and 12.4 Nm (1.25 kg-m) @ 8,000 rpm. This is much lesser than the 19+ bhp single cyl. mill on the new R15. The bike is can also be used by A1 license holders.

Braking duties are carried out by 292 mm front and 230 mm rear single disc brakes respectively. Suspension is a USD set-up at front and monoshock at rear. ABS is also part of the equipment list.
